Dogs Off Leash

The City has received several complaints recently about dogs off leash on the walking trails in Jacksonville. This is just a reminder that this is NOT allowed per city ordinance and if cited a person could be fined up to $1000 per offense.

Not everyone is a huge dog lover and a loose dog running up to them could be a very traumatic experience as some people are terrified of dogs. If you feel that your dog must run free, the City has designated the Forest Park at the end of Jackson Creek Reservoir Rd as such an area.

I will be directing patrol officers to focus a little more time on the trails system in an effort to gain compliance. As a part of this effort you will be seeing a motor officer on the trails in the coming months thanks to the generous donation of a fully equipped police bike from the Medford Police Department.

In closing, I hope that those that use our trail system will self police. It is not my desire to have to issue citations to curb this behavior. Please be respectful of all users of the trail system.

Thank You,

Chief Towe
