Doc Griffin Park

Doc Griffin Park is an inviting, active park, located at 298 South 5th Street, just steps from downtown Jacksonville.  The park is enhanced by a lush lawn perfect for throwing around a Frisbee or football, large playground structure, picnic pavilion, restrooms and popular Spray Park open from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  The picnic pavilion, a popular site for parties and gatherings, is available on a first come, first served basis.  However, you can complete a Letter of Intent for City Parks form and turn it in to the City Recorder or call 541-899-1231.  The City will mark its calendar for your gathering in case others are looking to do something the same day.

This park is named for popular and legendary osteopathic doctor, “Doc” Albert A. Griffin, who moved from Central Point to Jacksonville on January 31, 1951.  He and his wife, Ruth, lived at the top of Gold Terrace, next to the cemetery on a rather large piece of property.  They had two children, Susan Lynn and Jeffrey Albert.  Tales abounded concerning Doc’s medical skills, especially at accident sites.  He also was skilled in physical therapy and “hands-on” medicine.
